Visible  |  Vital  |  Valuable

Ensuring that the history, culture, and contributions of people of African descent remain as visible as they are vital and valuable to our past, present, and future.

ABOUT

Founded in 2002 by a dedicated, all-volunteer Board, the African American Museum and Cultural Center of New Mexico (AAMCCNM) was established with a shared vision: to unite community efforts and ensure that the history, culture, and contributions of people of African descent remain as visible as they are vital and valuable to our past, present, and future.

Inspired by earlier community exhibitions that highlighted the essential yet often underrepresented contributions of Black families, individuals, and organizations in the region's development, AAMCCNM was founded to preserve and celebrate New Mexico's rich African American heritage.

With a special emphasis on New Mexico and the Southwest, our mission is to research, collect, preserve, and share the stories that have shaped our communities—fostering greater awareness, understanding, and appreciation while safeguarding these legacies for generations to come.

Today, that vision is taking shape through Muse BLK, a developing museum and cultural center dedicated to bringing this rich history and heritage to life. The initiative represents an exciting new chapter in historical preservation, expanding digital access to archives and envisioning a permanent home for history, culture, art, education, entertainment, and community in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Through Muse BLK, we aspire to create a vibrant destination for cultural exploration, educational opportunities, and community connection. We invite you to join us in preserving our collective stories, celebrating the remarkable contributions of African Americans throughout New Mexico and the Southwest, and inspiring a brighter, more inclusive future.
